For those of you who enjoyed reading Beaverland (or planned to read it...), take a short hike to observe beaver activity on Redding Land Trust's Poliak Preserve. We will get close to a lodge on the pond that’s been there for many years. The beaver family that's on the pond likes to block the dam spillway, so we'll likely see some fresh dam building. If we're lucky, we'll see them swimming in the pond, as they're occasionally out and about during the day! A short amble through the woods leads to a wide beaver dam across the Saugatuck.
The entrance to Poliak Preserve is via the driveway of 193 Simpaug Turnpike. Don't park in the driveway, but cross the train tracks (very carefully!) and park in the field on the other side of the tracks. Sturdy shoes suggested.
